Black women in the United States routinely experience poor maternal health outcomes, including disproportionately high rates of death related to pregnancy or childbirth. In fact, Black women are three to four times more likely to experience a pregnancy related death than white women, and that heightened risk of pregnancy-related death spans income and education levels. As we recognize Black Maternal Health week, we’ll seek out greater understanding of the roots of this health crisis that continues to impact Black mothers and infants across the country.
