Reclaiming Our Democracy Town Hall with Fair Districts PA
Join Fair Districts PA and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania on December 1st in Harrisburg to discuss the state of our elections and government in Pennsylvania in preparation for the 2019-20 legislative session.
They will be looking at factors that make reform difficult in PA, considering ways to overcome those obstacles, and advancing the conversation about essential next steps.
Schedule:
10-11:30 AM – Panel discussion and Q&A on democracy priorities that accompany redistricting reform (open primaries, citizen initiatives, campaign finance reform, and others). Moderated by LWVPA Executive Director Jill Greene
11:30-1 PM – Lunch off-site at nearby restaurants. Watch for details about networking opportunities
1-2:15 PM – Panel discussion and Q&A on essential elements of effective redistricting reform legislation. Moderated by FDPA Legislative Director Pat Beaty with guest experts including Sam Wang of the Princeton Gerrymandering Project and Yuri Redensky of the Brennan Center for Justice
2:30-3:45 PM – Panel discussion and Q&A on ways our PA legislative rules make it too easy for leaders to block reform, along with proposed rule changes that would ensure that bipartisan solutions are given a hearing and brought to a vote. Moderated by a past legislator; panelists will be current or former PA legislators
3:45-4 PM – Thank you and next steps for Fair Districts PA
The event will be live-streamed and video recorded for use at future local group meetings.
